Using Trello For Meal Planning

Last year I bought a physical planner, and created forms for a freezer inventory, set on cleaning out all the food in our freezer in an organized manner. Yeah, that didn't work out.  I think the planner worked a whole 2 months.  I'm just not a paper person. So this year, take two.  I am trying this digitally.  Trello is my current favorite app for projects.  I created a board for Menu planning, added the days of the week, then added graphics to each card because I am happier when things have photos.  :-)  I tend to plan our menu, loosely, by theme, so each day of the week has the theme, and a card for theme ideas.   Now to use up all the food in our overstocked freezer. First I went through my freezer with my phone open to a google document, and I used voice to text to make a list of everything in my freezer.   This made for an interesting list, as my phone heard "balsamic chicken" as "butts a make chicken".  But I could figure...

All About Sweet Corn Season...

This year, more than any other, we've had a lot of questions about the sweet corn.  I thought I'd try to answer them all here in one spot, for my reference as much as anyone else.  :-) What Is The Difference Between Yellow & Bicolor? We plant two variety of seed - a yellow, appropriately named "Incredible", and a bicolor, which is usually refereed to as Butter and Sugar. Dan's family has been planting the Incredible brand for may years, and we have planted it every year since we've moved here in 2004.  It is hands down my favorite.  It's non GMO, because the brand is so old it was before gmo was really a thing. The Butter and Sugar is expensive to plant.  The seed is very expensive, the corn is often buggier, and it just doesn't grow as well.  And then, in my opinion, it's really not any better than the plain yellow that I love...  but most customers want butter and sugar, because they are used to that being a sweeter corn, (Try the Incredible ...

From thrift store painting to menu board

When I bought this painting at the thrift store, I actually intended for it to be a sign for my porch.  But then when I was spring cleaning my kitchen, I decided it would make a great menu board..  I had primed the entire thing off white when it was meant as a sign, but that just made it easier to make it a chalkboard.  I used raft paint on the frame, a deep dark red.  When I sprayed on the chalkboard paint some of the overspray got on the frame - I rubbed it on and added a bit more black craft paint giving it that sort of crafty antiqued look. I'm really surprised by how much my family loves this.  They all really like knowing what is for dinner each night.  Especially my husband!
