Cricut & The Dollar Tree

The Dollar Tree is one of my favorite places for "blanks" - items to put cricut vinyl designs on - but it's also where I find some of my basic supplies and tools.  These are the the items I buy there, followed by some of my projects with Dollar Tree blanks.   If there is a link with the project, it usually includes the svgs and fonts I used, along with step by step instructions.   Supplies To Buy At Dollar Tree   These are the two items I suggest everyone with a cricut buys first thing.   The clear contact paper ($1 a roll!) is the only transfer tape I use for transfering vinyl.  It also works for stencils. The fabric tape measure I use for every single project.  It's my most used tool.  That is what I use to figure out how large my design should be.  (I found the tape measure in the check out aisle)   These items are a little more craft related than specifically cricut - but I still recommend them!  I use those hooks...

Cricut Easter Baskets

Cliff Notes: Baskets are from the Dollar Tree, Target, & DH Gate.  Details are below, for each. Designs are from all over.  I've started this post with a list of places to find free bunny faces, then later in the post I describe each design I used and where I got the elements for it. I used a regular iron for all of these.  It's what I always use, I never have any problem using an iron.  I use a silicone baking sheet inside (or behind) items when Ironing on my designs, I think it helps.   Siser Easyweed HTV.  I buy it on Amazon, with prime free shipping, it's always the cheapest that way, for me. Dollar Tree Travel Coffee Mugs - Cricut

This is a Super CHEAP project.  50 cent travel coffee cups from Dollar tree, scrap vinyl.  It is a major pain in the butt to weed.  But I'm not strong on patience.  It would be easier if you use bigger cups, and make the design bigger. Some have said you can remove the Take It To Go logo with acetate and a magic eraser.  I tried, it didn't go great for me.  (I ended up painting those cups).  I decided to just put the design on the blank side, and leave the take it to go on the opposite side.   Step By Step How I Did This: I started with this blank logo, which someone shared on a facebook group.  You can right click on it, and choose "save as". The Starbucks font is Gibson.  You can download it for free here: http://www.fonts101.com/fonts/view/Uncategorized/48928/Gibson (Do that now, before you open design space.  If you need to know how to install a font, try this post:  ) Now open Design space, new project, and...

Decorating Soap Dispensers With Cricut

These dispensers are all from the Dollar Tree.  I spray painted a bunch of them, using Rustoleum spray paint, because I wanted more of the off white, and my store didn't have them.  My mom then saw that I was making these, and ordered me an entire case - so I now have 3 green, 3 blue, 3 yellow, and 3 white that I want to come up with designs for..  all of the green will be grinches, they have been very popular. I used 651 vinyl.  I buy it in bulk on Amazon -  You can choose 6 different rolls, you chose the colors, for $21.50 here:  http://amzn.to/2ClMK4I , or FIFTEEN rolls, you choose the colors, for $35 here -  http://amzn.to/2DL3778 .   These are the designs I used for these (I'll break down the fonts and designs used below) Keep Calm & Copper Boom A Gilmore Girls reference I found this on google and cleaned it up in design space, for my daughters dorm room. Wash Your Hands & Say Your Prayers I bought this design on Apex.  I wo...

How To Make a Split Monogram For A Dollar Store Tote

I bought these totes at the dollar store, knowing that I'd be able to do something with them eventually.  And then I got a cricut.  YAY!  Now I must cricut absolutely everything, to justify the cost of this thing.  :-) I knew I wanted to put a monogram on them, but I wanted to do a "split" monogram, and it took me a bit to figure out how to do that.  This was the first I have used the weld and split features - I didn't even know they were there until I tackled this project.  You'll find them on the bottom right of your cricut design screen.  They will be faded out until you select two images at he same time. I started with a T  - for Truckenmiller.  5x5 works nicely on these totes.  I used the Imprint Mt Shadow font for the T. Next use the shape tool, and choose Square.  Unlock the shape (bottom left) and you can stretch it into a rectangle.  I like to keep the rectangle just about as wide as the letter. Now is when you "weld" ...
